For water injection pipelines on the sea bed, the inserting of a thermoplastic liner is a method that has been established for more than 15 years. Pipeline operators all over the world are convinced of the clear cost advantages (CAPEX and OPEX). But the liner used in this technology is of polyethylene, which is unsuitable for oil transport lines.
Polyamide 12 does have the property profile required for a liner material, however, and is therefore a genuine alternative to stainless steel based systems. This evolution of an established technology, while only a small step in itself, offers potential for enormous cost savings.
