Evonik broadens polyphthalamide product range

Tribologically modified VESTAMID® HTplus extends the service life of gearbox components

Evonik Industries’ new VESTAMID® HTplus M1533 is a 30% glass fiber-reinforced compound that contains an internal lubricant. Reducing friction and minimizing abrasion, the polyphthalamide (PPA) amplifies the durability of gearbox components and reduces the energy consumed in the application. The material extends the repair intervals, too, because gearbox components made from VESTAMID® HTplus M1533 are self-lubricating and do not need to be greased with additional additives.

The new compound can be used in gear wheels, friction bearings, and ball bearing cages, among other areas. VESTAMID® HTplus M1533 is available in two colors: natural and black. With this new addition to its product range, Evonik is also responding to rising global demand for PPA, a high-performance polymer.

In tune with the requirements of the market, Evonik is also adding 45% glass fiber-reinforced VESTAMID® HTplus M10345 to its PPA range. This thermally stable black compound is particularly suitable for injection molding applications that must withstand extremely high temperatures. The two new PPA grades are now available in addition to the VESTAMID® HTplus products that are already well established on the market.

Besides high chemical resistance, molded parts made of VESTAMID® HTplus offer high dimensional stability and excellent mechanical properties such as rigidity and tensile strength. VESTAMID® HTplus is thus ideally suited for applications in which metals have traditionally been used. In addition to corrosion resistance, lower component weight, and the resulting reduction—of up to 50 percent—in component costs, the material offers greater freedom of design, which in turn brings further advantages.
