Polyamides offer an excellent price-performance ratio

Evonik produces a large number of specialty polyamides marketed under the VESTAMID® brand name. In general, long-chain semicrystalline polyamides absorb little water, are resistant to polar and nonpolar solvents, have a low tendency to creep and high impact strength, and can be used over a wide temperature range between –50 and +180°C. Hardly any other polymer material in this price category offers such an excellent property profile.

Moreover, the properties of VESTAMID® can be modified by the use of various additives such as fillers, glass fibers, and plasticizers to satisfy the specific requirements of the application on the polyamide molding compound. Many of the VESTAMID® molding compounds are specially designed for injection molding while others are more suitable for extrusion.

VESTAMID® has proven its worth in a number of application fields over many years and its many variants are used mainly for durable and technically sophisticated applications. Examples are the various automotive line systems, petroleum production lines and gas lines for use at pressures above 10 bar, technical filaments for brushes, soles of high quality sports shoes, cable sheathing, housing for antistatic equipment, and even catheters.

Evonik's specialty polyamides include the following:

VESTAMID® L series
Polyamide 12 (PA 12) based on laurolactam

VESTAMID® D series
Polyamide 612 (PA 612) based on hexamethylenediamine and decanedioic acid

VESTAMID® E series
Polyamide 12 elastomers (polyether block amides or PEBAs) based on laurolactam and polyether diols

VESTAMID® HTplus
High-temperature-stable semicrystalline material based on polyphthalamide (PPA)

VESTAMID® Terra
Polyamides based on renewable raw materials:

  • polyamide 1010 based on decamethylenediamine and 1,10-decanedioic acid (sebacic acid)
  • polyamide 610 based on 1,6-hexamethylenediamine and 1,10-decanedioic acid
  • polyamide 1012 blends
