VESTENAMER® is used as a processing aid in the rubber industry in the manufacture of tires, profiles, tubes, all kinds of molded rubber articles, roller coatings, and calendered articles. The semicrystalline rubber is also used in batch technology for polymer-bound accelerators and peroxide batches, and to improve compatibility in rubber blends. In thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), it can serve as a compatibilizer and peroxide activator.
An application that has proved its worth over many years is the addition of VESTENAMER® in the recycling of rubber waste for use in railroad crossings, floor coverings, mats or traffic management systems. The use of VESTENAMER® in waste rubber mixed with asphalt is particularly advantageous: As little as 4.5% by weight, relative to the weight of the rubber, prevents sticking of the asphalt and the formation of unwanted vapors, which makes for an easier, faster and safer asphalting of roads.
